Actors direction mid point

- Have the courage to fulfil all of your character choices

- Maintain good behaviour and focus during all rehearsals

- Learn lines to provide everybody with the best rehearsals 

- Make bold character choices and know where and when we are needed in stage to make a sustained, good performance

- Bold, strong ensemble work

- Be alive throughout the entire play and know that you are always seen by the audience

 

Stage directions

Prologue: 
- Enter through main doors (under balcony) as teenager breaking into a found building
Atmosphere: looking, discovering, interested
- Investigating seats, looking at the walls etc
- Bird noises
- Exit as bird to I front of audience

ACT ONE - 

Scene 1:
Pretending you are on a boat, swaying, shouting "I'm going to be sick"
Atmosphere: tense, scared, there's going to be a ship wreck
See wave watch it splash above us 
Cox: Die! Die! Die!
- Swirling to floor as unconscious body beginning to drown

Scene 2:
Nation: Imo made the sea.... Imo made the fish
- Wispered breath chanting
Come up to kneeling facing Brinley
Dead faces
Tapping rythm on body
"Oh my son the nation are dead" - Holding face of someone else and your own, rip off face and scream
Atmosphere: scary, surreal, disturbing
Locahah - "ive come for you" - que to leave as a twitching zombie behind the audience
Locahah- "it won't be long..." Deep humming
Mau prepared fathers body - fade into background

Scene 6:
Ensemble swaying on the sides of audience, like the sea. "Shhh"
Mau: out there good men become-
In lines of 3 sway and separate right into a pair as people are carried through 

Scene 8:
- Enter stage left being held by Isaac (Milo) and Fenton (Pilu) 
Daphne: I'm so sorry. I- I- hopes you were someone else
- Breathing heavily as pregnant woman. Having outburst of cries
- Isaac (Milo) walks me up to the woman's place (Central to audience)
- Long walk to centre stage 
- screaming desperately
Atmosphere- hysteric, pain, pregnant, surreal moment

Scene 9:
- In the woman's place 
- Screaming throughout, gasping for breath etc
Daphne: I'll make sure that you and your baby live
- Met on teepee draws as I begin to have the baby
- yelling in pain, squating and moving across he floor 
Atmosphere- animalistic, cow like giving birth, screaming, tired, yelping
- After birth daphne hands me the baby
- Lay down to sleep 
- Run off with all of the other girls surrounding the woman's place (main doors) singing "Lalala"
- Split for Clay (Mau) to walk through to women

Scene 10: 
Mau: and the waves and the sun and birth and death. And there's no reason for anything. 
- Enter centre stage. Stage right 
Milo: Quick. Help. Cahle. Twink-Ull
- Sit down
- Screaming 'aaaah' meaningful to loosing baby
- Remain sitting
- Enter the circle with girls and act as fire and water 
Cahle: Oh. Twinkle hungry. He likes it. 
- Feeding baby
Mau: We Must build shelters to keep off the rain and sun. 
- Stand up looking for food and shelter
- Exit stage right singing a sailer went to sea

Scene 13:
Mau: If you like. 
- Enter stage left with Taliah (Daphne) carrying Twinkle
Daphne: I'm going to say a prayer. Will you join me?
- Kneeling on the floor following direction of prayer
- Fade out to behind audience as chairs are set up for the next scene

Scene 14:
- Enter from stage doors
- In the arc shape at centre stage
Daphne: I'm going to fight Locahah this will not happen 
- Form a circle beginning to chant
Marisgala: First you will heat in your body, then great cold. 
- Walk back 5 steps

Scene 15: 
- From corner stage swimming around as dream fish 
- "I cant"
- From corner start picking fruit around the room 
- Notice the telescope in centre stage
- Become a happy islander dancing
- Notice wave and run towards the stage exit
- "Daphne" appear on stage from behind audience 
- "Not two coffins I'll" disappear back behind audience 

Scene 16:
- Kneeling by Mau
- "Yes!" Extremely happy Daphne is alive again
- Exit behind the audience

INTERVAL -------

ACT 2

Scene 1:
- With twinkle walking around the atmosphere of islanders. Acting as if it's a working society 
- Begin dancing with girls & picking food with islanders. Living in the moment
- Praise twinkle. The day is about him 
- Laughing and smiling enjoying Twinkles birthday 
- Join in humming happy birthday
- Mesmerised by the watch Daphne gives Twinkle
- Offended by Mau
 
Scene 2:
- Ensemble transition to cave 
- Laying on floor moving from the spine gently in a semi circle around the cave steps

Scene 4:
- Leaning over balcony with Daphne and Twinkle
- Enter again through main doors with twinkle 
- See dead body "Don't worry twinkle" covering his face and holding him in the chest not allowing him to see Ataba 
 
Scene 5:
- Standing around the body of Ataba by main doors
- Slow solicitor/lawyer speech
